2008 is going to be truly memorable. The long nightmare is almost sure to end.I went to bed last night like a kid waiting for Christmas anticipating the fight to finally drive these pricks for office.
I don't have a dog in the primary fight. Really. I'm thrilled that one of my favorite Dems is virtually certain to win second place in Iowa. The problem I've got, however, was put into sharp relief by this post reminding me that there's not much point electing someone with particular skills if she or he isn't willing to use them.
Harvard trained constitutional law professors don't exactly grow on trees. Not only are they respected because of their own supposedly top 5% abilities, but because they are tutored, nurtured and groomed in an environment that teaches the best to be the best, not the second, third or even fourth best.
Of course, for Republican graduates we have to devise a negative set of metrics... 'most duplicitous, etc', but I digress.
John Edwards hates the system and will go after corporations like a pit-bull. We know HRC will game the system. My own choice would be Kucinich. Why is it that the pint-size Mayor of Cleveland is standing taller for the constitution than the one constitutional law expert in the race? Which brings me to my point:
What's the point of electing a fireman when he refuses to listen to the alarm or hook up the hose? What does that tell you about 'character'? Whether it's pandering to homo-phobe bigots or smearing Gore and Kerry there doesn't seem to be afraid of attacking Dems.
There's a lot riding on the decision Dem's will make. I'd like to see Dennis win. But if you're focused on electing one of the front-runners, please choose carefully.
It's already new year here in Japan. I'll leave you with words of warning and wisdom from someone unafraid to take on everyone.
Peace won't come without a fight.
Best not to forget when choosing a leader.
